‘E637 EGU’ is one of the rarest cars on the road today. DVLA records suggest just two Quantum Saloons remain in use in the UK in 2025. Quantum Sports Cars was founded in 1987 with their MKI offering being based on the MKI Fiesta. The MKII Saloon happened along in 1991 picking up the MKII Fiesta’s underpinnings along the way. ‘E637 EGU’s’ DVLA date of 1987 refers to its donor car – a MKII Fiesta XR2 – as it is a MKII Saloon so must be post 1991 in origin. ‘E637 EGU’ records a mileage to date of around 61,000 and has been enjoyed by eight keepers to date. In current ownership ‘E637 EGU’ has been well tended to with new wheels, new radiator and header tank, and new starter motor all fitted. The brakes have been replaced all round, a new camshaft fitted, and the cam belt replaced. ‘E637 EGU’ holds a valid MOT until September 2025 and is ready to use and enjoy immediately.
The Quantum Saloon is unusual in boasting a GRP monocoque construction. This configuration is immensely strong, as well as being lighter and more aerodynamic than the donor XR2. ‘E637 EGU’ Also it was one of very few kit cars that could seat four adults in comfort, even leaving ample room for luggage in the commodious separate boot.
‘E637 EGU’ offers a sleek profile and features some interesting details like the concealed headlights and chunky body kit incorporating a generous boot spoiler. ‘E637 EGU’ is finished in a bright red livery which has suffered some paint fade from a period spent under the bright sun in Portugal. Other pleasing external features are the new, five-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels and the glass sunroof. The interior of ‘E637 EGU’ is pure MKII Fiesta XR2 featuring grey fabric seats with red pinstripes. The signature XR2 twin spoked steering wheel and instrument binnacle are instantly recognisable. A modern, but period look, Bluetooth head unit is fitted. The interior’s condition appears very good indeed and indeed is vendor rated as “excellent.” The bodywork gets an “excellent” with the paintwork earning an “average.” The mechanicals are XR2 items meaning a 96 bhp, 1.6 litre Ford CVH engine mated to a five speed manual gearbox.
