‘HD06GLD’ is an eye catching example of the revered Harley Davidson Electra-Glide dating from 2006. By this stage in the Electa-Glide’s development, it was launched back in 1965, the V-twin engine capacity had grown to a mighty 88 cubic inches, or 1,450cc. The Electra-Glide is configured for continental scale touring and ‘HD06GLD’ exhibits all the attributes that make it so suited to this task. ‘HD06GLD’s’ model code of FLHTCUI specifically classifies it as an Ultra Classic Electra-Glide with fuel injection. ‘HD06GLD’ has been enjoyed by five previous keepers, with the current vendor acquiring this Electra-Glide in December of last year. This uber-tourer presents in a limited edition livery and is offered complete with an advisory free MOT until September 2025. Being offered here just in time for some highly refined and super comfortable summer touring.
The Electra-Glide was originally so named due to the fitting of an electric starter as standard. An absolute given in 2025 but very much a novelty in 1965. The “glide” element of the name speaks for itself, and the big twin cam “88” is rubber mounted to further supress and quell unwanted vibrations. ‘HD06GLD’ presents in a vibrant, limited edition, two-tone livery of Concord Purple and Aztec Orange. All the features that make an Electra-Glide so suited to the long and open road are present. These include the capacious, well padded, stepped saddle with a backrest for the pillion and that elevated seating position allowing for a view ahead. Lockable GTX hard panniers are fitted and finished in a matching livery as is a removable top box. The recognisable “batwing” fork mounted fairing combined with vented lower fairings limit the disruptive airflow and the latter include more storage. Other Electra-Glide refinements include a sound system with speakers, updated Harley Davidson satellite navigation and aerials. The vendor adjudges the bodywork and paintwork as “good.”
Although ‘HD06GLD’s’ Twin-Cam 88 took inspiration from Harley Davidson V-twins dating back to the 1920’s, it is a comparatively modern unit first introduced in 1998. In ‘HD06GLD’ Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection is utilised as is a vibration-isolation mounting system. Being a UK model this is thought to have originally produced around 100 lb-ft or torque and a bhp output in the late 80’s to 90’s. Power is delivered via a five speed manual gearbox and a “low-effort” clutch. The vendor rates the transmission as “excellent” and the engine and electrics as “good.”
