It’s hard not to smile at the sight of a Morris Minor - a bastion of British roads, examples of which are still serving as reliable everyday transport. This delightful four-door model hails from 1961 and is understood to have been the subject of a recent restoration and retrim. Its Porcelain Green paintwork is matched to tan-coloured interior trim, all of which is enhanced by good quality brightwork that includes stainless steel wheel covers, as well as chromed wing and door-mounted mirrors and exhaust trim. The vendor informs us that the underside of the Morris has also been refurbished, and he presently regards the 948cc A Series engine, four-speed manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘good’ condition. This attractive Minor’s had just six owners from new and currently displays a total mileage of only 82,832. It comes complete with a selection of invoices and old MOTs.
The Morris Minor is almost as universal a symbol of England as the London bus and the red telephone box and, with over 1.3 million manufactured in its 23-year reign, is one of the most successful cars of all time. Designed by Alec Issigonis (who later penned the ubiquitous Mini), the Minor was unveiled at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show. With the Series II of 1952, came a new, Austin-designed engine – the A Series 803cc OHV unit. The more major update of 1956 saw the engine increased in capacity to 948cc (the car was now renamed the Minor 1000), the rear window enlarged and the split-screen front one replaced with a single glass. 1961 saw the Minor become the first British car to achieve a million sales.
