The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

Lot 62

1985 Opel Manta 1.8S Berlinetta

Registration - C611 KVV

Chassis No. - W0L000053F6035215

M.O.T. - April 2023

Odometer - 85,000

‘C611 KVV’ was first registered on August 1, 1985 and still features its original dealer licence plates, tax disc holder and window etches. It is finished in red, trimmed in black cloth and rides on a set of black-centred alloy wheels. The vendor informs us that it was dry stored from 1997, but has since been treated to a commensurate level of recommissioning, that included: new engine belts; water pump; core plugs and all gaskets and seals; brake lines; and a full service. The Opel has also been equipped with a custom-made aluminium fuel tank, meaning the car will never again suffer from the common Manta problem of rusting below the mounting straps. The vendor presently grades the four-cylinder engine, five-speed Getrag manual transmission, hatchback bodywork and lustrous paintwork as ‘excellent’ and the upholstery as ‘good’. He adds that the car is ‘a very solid rust-free example, with no welding to the swan necks or floors’ and that ‘its underside is nice and presentable’. He also confirms that ‘the 1.8-litre engine runs as it should, with the auto-choke operating correctly’, and that ‘the interior is lovely aside of some slight wear on the driver’s seat bolster’. He is now offering the Berlinetta complete with its original factory build sheet, a pair of keys, a degree of history and old MOTs certificate that authenticate the currently indicated total mileage of 85,000, plus a current MOT valid into May next year. A rare opportunity for the many fans of GM’s sporting products of the 1980s.

Introduced in 1982, the Manta B2 was manufactured over a five-year period and offered with either 1.3, 1.8, or 2.0-litre powerplants, of which the 1.8 proved to be the most popular.

In summary:

  • An apparently very solid rust-free example
  • Was dry stored from 1997
  • Still features its original number plates, tax disc holder and window etches
