Hampson Auctions are proud to present a potentially unparalleled opportunity for enthusiasts and collectors alike to acquire a 1956 Aston Martin DB2/4 MKII coupe restoration project which has already benefited from a recent, comprehensive engine recommission and which is offered at No Reserve.
'XKO 303' was originally supplied by Martin Walter Ltd of Folkstone & Margate - the original dealer plaque is still displayed in the car. The recent engine restoration included a full strip-down and rebuild, all conducted to a high standard, with bearings and piston rings replaced and cylinders honed to ensure optimal performance and a replacement distributor oil pump drive fitted. Particular attention was paid to the cylinder head, where all valves were re-ground and clearances meticulously set through shimming.
This engine work has set a solid foundation for the restoration journey ahead, and is a major step in enabling this beautiful and highly original DB2/4 MKII to return to its former glory. Don't miss this rare opportunity to acquire a piece of automotive history and embark on a restoration project which promises to yield a truly rewarding result.
Introduced in prototype form in 1949, the DB2—so named for company chairman David Brown—struck an appealing balance between gorgeous aluminum coachwork, sporting driving dynamics, and a characterful twin-overhead-cam inline-six. Things only improved three years later, when the foundations that had made the DB2 such a successful sports car were built upon to create the Aston Martin DB2/4—a groundbreaking Frank Feeley design that introduced a subtly raised roofline, additional seating for two rear passengers, and a revolutionary “hatch back” offering unparalleled access to the luggage compartment. Always a rare model, even in more common closed configuration, total DB2/4 production amounted to just 761 examples.
'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following; Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'
Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.
