Finished in the desirable colour combination of white with matching white interior, and bearing the marque-related registration G18 VWG, this Karmann Clipper ticks all the right boxes for open-top GTI motoring. The Mk1 Golf Cabriolet, introduced in 1979 and built by Karmann, combined Volkswagen’s sharp dynamics with open-air motoring. Marketed in various guises over its long production run, the Clipper became one of the most recognisable versions, featuring revised styling, Karmann body enhancements, and, in GTI form, spirited performance from the fuel-injected four-cylinder engine. Production ran until 1993, well after the hatchback had moved on to the Mk2 generation, cementing the Mk1 Cabriolet’s popularity as a design icon of the 1980s and early 1990s.
