Good Series 1 Elites are much in demand, so this uniquely uprated example is likely to be fought over by fans of Lotus’s most enduring model. Its tidy bodywork is finished in the attractive choice of Azure Blue metallic. Both driver and passenger are cosseted by ProBax-modified Series 2 Elise seats featuring blue Alcantara trim, while other internal features of note include a JVC RDS radio/CD player playing though Alpine speakers, and a carpet mat set. The little Lotus rides on slightly wider than standard S2 111S alloy wheels while the handling benefits from S2 Bilstein upgraded springs and dampers. Equipped for all weathers, it comes complete with hood, colour-coded hardtop and related cover, plus an Elemental shower cap. Exhaust from the 118bhp K-Series engine exits via a Janspeed stainless steel silencer, and night driving is aided by a pair of auxiliary lamps.
First registered in July 2000, ‘W68 AGK’ has only covered 38,645 miles from new so far, and is now available for some lucky new owner complete with a comprehensive history file containing: the original and continuation service books featuring 17 Lotus or Lotus specialist stamps; service invoices; complete original Lotus handbook pack; radio operation guide; and a selection of old MOTs, plus one valid into April of next year. Two sets of keys and alarm fobs complete the inventory of this decidedly attractive proposition.
Thanks to its deliberately low kerb weight, the Series Elise was able to accelerate from 0-60mph in a supercar humbling 5.8 seconds. Its name was inspired by Elisa, the granddaughter of Romano Artioli, who was the chairman of both Lotus and Bugatti at the time of the little Lotus’s launch.
