Radiating Italian style and flair, as is typical of an Alfa Romeo, this 146 is presented in patriotic red, and packed with features that put it on the cusp of true classic status. Powered by Alfa Romeo’s 1.4-litre boxer engine, ‘P501 PWS’ sees that rare and desirable unit matched to a five-speed manual gearbox. Factory fitted equipment includes electric windows, central locking, grey cloth interior, electric mirror adjustment, and tilt-and-slide sunroof. Period correct alloy wheels are fitted, alongside three sets of keys, and an Alfa Romeo car cover, umbrella, and cap – bought from the Alfa Romeo museum in Milan, with the 146 making the trip ‘home’ in 2002.
Originally a showroom model, ‘P501 PWS’ is highly equipped, and after its time on display at the dealership, it has had only one owner in 28 years. To say that this 146 saloon has been cherished could be an understatement. Displaying an indicated 89,000 miles on the odometer, ‘P501 PWS’ has always been garaged when not on the road, and as such, the vendor describes the exterior and underside as ‘rock solid’ with ‘no rust or rot anywhere’. Alongside the pristine interior, it is no surprise that ‘P501 PWS’ is rated as in ‘excellent’ condition throughout by the current keeper; the description covering the engine, transmission, electrics, cabin, bodywork, and paint. Offered with MOT until August 2025, this Alfa Romeo comes with a full service history, as well as huge file of paperwork. It includes full workshop manuals, receipts, original bill of sale, showroom brochures, and Alfa Romeo gold card. Offered for sale recently serviced, with a new alternator, and timing belts sorted 200 miles ago, ‘P501 PWS’ is an exceptional example of Alfa Romeo’s compact 1990s saloon.

· Desirable boxer engine fitted

Alfa Romeo revealed its new 145 and 146 models at the 1994 Turin Motor Show; the former a three-door hatchback, and the latter a four-door saloon – same market, but different designation depending on style. Replacing the Alfa Romeo 33, the 145 arrived the same year, with the 146 reaching showrooms a year later. Offering either a longitudinal boxer engine or transverse Twin Spark straight four, the 146 had a range of engine sizes and power outputs to offer, from 1.4- to 2.0-litres, as well as petrol or diesel choices – all came with a five-speed manual gearbox. A refresh arrived in 1999, with tweaked styling, new equipment lists, and a new 1.9 JTD diesel engine, before the split model range was unified again with the 147 hatchback, which launched in 2000.
