Odometer – 72,500

This rare Aston Martin V8 Series 4 ‘Oscar India’ is tantalisingly being offered at No Reserve. Remarkably, it has had just four owners since new. The car was registered in November 1978, so shortly after the October 1978 ‘Oscar India’ model series introduction at the NEC Motor Show, with the first two keepers owning it between 1978-1986. The third owner kept it until 1997 when the current owner acquired it. With an odometer reading around 72,500 miles, ‘XYT801T’ has an extensive history. Of particular appeal is the claim that all repairs and upgrades have been photographically captured and recorded. They are stored on a flash drive which will come with the car.

‘XYT801T’ is finished in Storm Red paint, which is described, along with the bodywork, as being in ‘good ’ condition. The magnolia leather interior is in ‘good’ condition too. Its powerful 5.3-litre Tadek Marek-designed V8 gives the car 146mph potential. Both it and the automatic transmission are described as being in ‘good’ condition. Although MOT exempt, the vehicle was regularly MOT'd up until 2018. This striking Aston Martin V8 is said to have been “well cherished” as the “owner’s pride and joy”.

The Aston Martin V8 design dates back to 1969, when it was known as the DBS V8, becoming simply ‘V8’ in 1972. Originally only a coupe, a Volante convertible arrived in 1978. October 1978 also saw the Series 4 introduced at the Birmingham International Motor Show; these cars are known as ‘Oscar India’, from the phonetic alphabet that references their ‘October introduction’. They can be spotted at a glance from their closed-off bonnet scoop. The V8 was sold for 30 years right up to 1989. Production of each V8 reportedly took several months, with experts calculating around 1,200 man hours went into making each one.

In summary:

  • No Reserve 1978 Aston Martin V8 Series 4 ‘Oscar India’
  • Just four owners from new
  • Extensive history includes photographic records of repairs and upgrades
