The vendor has owned this ‘totally rust free’ 129 Series Benz for the last 10 years, during which time it has been reserved for summer touring and weekend breaks. Its white bodywork is matched to what the vendor describes as ‘immaculate’ grey hide interior trim and matching carpets, and the car rides on distinctive AMG alloy wheels shod with ‘good’ low profile tyres. The car recently benefited from the fitment of a brand new blue mohair hood and has apparently been highly maintained throughout the current ownership, with a change of oil and filter every year irrespective of mileage. The specification is as comprehensive as you’d expect and includes: sport/economy functions for the four-speed automatic gearbox, traction control, power hood, electrically operated windows and seats, central locking, rear wind deflector etc. The coupe is now being offered complete with original factory hardtop (‘in excellent condition’), the cherished registration number ‘M1 SFR’, pair of keys, its original factory book pack, comprehensive service history and selection of old MOTs, plus a current one valid for the next 12 months. Mercedes have been producing an SL (Sport Leicht) model since 1954, when the landmark 300SL was unveiled. The 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. The fourth generation (R129 Series) was launched at the Geneva Motor Show of 1989. It was a beautifully-engineered car that bristled with technical refinement and innovative safety features. The specification included independent suspension all round (double wishbone at the front/five link system at the rear), adaptive damping, ventilated disc brakes with ABS, electronic stability control, integral roll-over bar and front air bags.
