This incredible 1980 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600 GL is a genuine time capsule. Described as being dry stored for most of its life, the vendor reports it has been kept 100% original as a reliable and unmolested example. The bodywork and interior are described as being in ‘excellent’ condition, as the images show, and original features include a radio and analogue clock. The period ashtrays in the rear doors are immaculate, as is the retro mustard cloth upholstery. The vendor adds that engine, transmission and electrics are in ‘excellent’ condition and the only alteration is an electric ignition and isolator; it now “starts on the button every time”. Further boosting its practicality, it has stronger rear springs to better handle passengers and luggage.

Registered in April 1980, ‘DBU274V’ is MOT exempt and has an odometer reading 21,522 miles. Further highlights include a pristine boot complete with unmarked original spare wheel. The vendor has owned it for more than a decade, and it has been serviced annually. The car comes with its original handbook as well. ‘DBU274V’ is described as a rare classic “and a very usable car”.

The Cavalier was a breakthrough car for Vauxhall. Introduced in 1975, it was based on an Opel design, with a ‘dropsnoot’ front end taken from the Manta coupe. The interior was also shared with the German Opel. This car was produced at Vauxhall’s Luton plant, with Cavalier production starting there in August 1977. This helped meet huge demand for the well-received Vauxhall, which quickly became a top-10 best-seller in the UK.

In summary:

  • ‘Time-capsule’ Vauxhall Cavalier
  • Well cared for and usable classic
  • Offered with no reserve
