Offered at No Reserve, this race-spec 1981 Ford Escort RS2000 in classic Rothmans livery is described as being in ‘excellent’ condition throughout. The vendor says the Rothmans livery alone cost over £2,500, while the Cibie lights cost £900 and “finish the car off perfectly”. It even has an MOT valid to June 2026. Originally registered as a Ford Escort RS Custom in February 1981, ‘PDF916W’ has a superb MOT history that shows the high standard it’s been maintained to.
The engine is a 2.0-litre Ford ‘YB’ turbo motor, an engine also seen in the famed Ford Escort RS Cosworth. It is a Stage 3 engine with a Motoscope print-out showing it running around 330bhp. There are Piper cams, vernier pulleys, a T34 Garret turbo and 3-bar map sensor. It’s pared with a T5 Quaife straight-cut dog-box transmission, with a twin-plate paddle clutch and lightened flywheel. Other features below the bonnet include green injectors, Pipercross cone filter, a new alternator, alloy radiator and intercooler, electric fan and an Alunox stainless steel exhaust downpipe and manifold. The engine is understood to have been built by Joe Stevens at Bluesprint Motorsport, and it also features a new wiring harness.
‘PDF916W’ has a fibreglass front bumper, there’s a genuine Ford grille, and the bronze-tinted glass is original – and yet another collectable detail. Inside, there is a full roll cage, five-point race harnesses, an aluminium passenger (or navigator!) footrest, an OMP deep-dish steering wheel, flocked dash top and Stack instrumentation. ‘PDF916W’ also has carbon fibre door cards, a carbon centre panel, bias pedal box and hydraulic cylinders plus a 50-litre Group 4 alloy fuel tank. Another safety touch are the stainless braided FIA fuel and brake lines.
The Escort has an Atlas Axle with six-link Watts linkage, and all mounts are welded. Adjustable Gaz coilover suspension features front and rear, as do four-pot Wilwood brakes, and there’s a hydraulic handbrake. The Revolution eight-spoke wheels are 15x8 at the front and 15x8.5 at the rear, running new Kumho tarmac tyres. Overall, this is a genuinely breathtaking Mk2 Ford Escort RS2000 that is ready and waiting to thrill its new owner.
