The Bolesworth Castle March 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

Lot 74

1990 Bentley Eight
***NO RESERVE*** Complete with original service booklet showing full service history

Registration - H596 XUB

Chassis No. - SCBZE00A1MCH33864

M.O.T. - December 2024

Odometer - 102,814

This imperious Bentley Eight is presented in beautifully conditioned Vermillion Red with cream interior, and matching red carpet. Sumptuously appointed, even as Bentley’s ‘entry-level’ model at the time, this stately-home on wheels is powered by Bentley’s long-serving 6.75-litre V8, matched to an automatic transmission for effortless cross-country travel. Used regularly but well cared for throughout its life, ‘H596 XUB’ has a fully-stamped service book, since being supplied as new by HR Owen in 1990. The vendor describes all elements of this Bentley Eight as ‘good’, from engine and transmission, to bodywork and interior trim, and is offered with 102,814 miles on the odometer.

The Eight was an entry level model based on the Mulsanne and aimed at a younger clientele. Introduced in 1984, it could readily be distinguished by its wire mesh rather than slatted radiator grille. It deliberately lacked some of the Mulsanne’s luxury equipment, but benefited from a firmer suspension that resulted in tauter handling. Power came from Bentley’s ubiquitous 6750 cc V8 unit mated to a three-speed (four-speed on the later models) automatic gearbox. Suspension was independent by coil springs front and rear, coupled with hydraulic self-levelling height control at the back. Braking was by ventilated discs at the front and solid units at the rear. Initially only available in the UK, the model became so popular that sales were expanded to include Europe and the USA. The Eight was superseded by the Bentley Brooklands in 1992 after a total of 1,736 had been produced.

In summary:

· An excellent example of the Bentley Eight

· Full service history, showing care taken throughout its regularly-used life

· ‘Sportier’ version of the Bentley Mulsanne
