If making an entrance to eclipse all others is your thing, then ‘N972 FKE’ is the vehicle for you! ‘N972 FKE’ is a stunning example of a Peterbilt 379 dating from 1996. It was about this time that Transformer Optimus Prime was being portrayed as a Peterbilt 379 when in his “alternate state.” ‘N972 FKE’ has been in the UK since around 2005, subsequently undergoing a thorough, high-quality restoration at the hands of the previous owner. The result is a multi-prize winning show truck with, surely, few equals. ‘N972 FKE’ is an example of the rarer and more sought after 127 inch bumper to back of cab, extended hood model. It also features a 63” sleeper pod with folding bunk beds and even a TV. As a show truck ‘N972 FKE’ is classified in the Private / Light Goods (PLG) class and so able to be driven by a wide range of license holders.
The Peterbilt 379 was launched in 1978 to replace the 359 and take its place at the top of the Peterbilt range. Beloved of the owner-operator the 379 was prized for its ability to endure huge mileages and its relative economy thanks to its aluminium and light weight body. The long hood also allowed for the adoption of a huge range of engine and transmission options – suitable for almost every task asked of the 379. ‘N972 FKE’ is thought to feature the revered 855 ci (14-litre!), six cylinder Cummins “Big Cam” engine mated to a ten-ratio (they’re all in there, somewhere!) manual transmission.
Externally ‘N972 FKE’ is a mighty eye-full of gleaming black paint, the brightest chrome and precision engineered chequer plate. Show winning features include 24-inch polished alloy wheels all round, custom chrome stacks, custom mudguards and rear lights and a tailored fifth wheel cover. The cabin is every bit as thrilling, finished in black and cream leather and including the obligatory CB radio and that aforementioned cosy sleeping pod. To accompany that huge engine there is a compression, or Jake, brake fitted, differential locks and the axles have been rebuilt. If you are after a vehicle where each cylinder boasts a 2333cc capacity and looks like a “Robot in Disguise” then ‘N972 FKE’ can surely be your only choice.
In summary:
· A highly impressive Peterbilt show truck with all aspects vendor rated as “excellent”
· Complete with 63-inch sleeping pod with folding bunks
· The more desirable 127-inch bumper to back of cab extended hood configuration
