The Bolesworth Castle May 2025 Classic, Performance & Supercar Auction

Lot 8

1979 Austin Morris Mini 1000
***NO RESERVE*** Equipped with iconic Minilite wheels and automatic transmission

Registration – GGS 302T

Chassis No. – XL2S1N-623596A

M.O.T. – Exempt

Odometer – 33,500

Dating from 1979, ‘GGS 302T’ is a fine example of the MK IV iteration of this British classic. ‘GGS 302T’ is in the ownership of its tenth keeper who has owned it for around 3 years and just 33,500 miles are troubling the odometer, a mileage that seems supported by the MOT history. This Mini is in automatic specification which is currently a popular choice for smaller classics. In current ownership ‘GGS 302T’ has been maintained by its owner and it also comes with an ample paperwork archive. This Mini is classified as an Historic Vehicle based on its age and, so, is zero rated for road tax and MOT exempt. Despite this ‘GGS 302T’ held an advisory free MOT until January 2025. ‘GGS 302T’ has a category C insurance marker against it dating from 2009.

The classic Mini really needs no introduction, of course. There was a blizzard of upgrades, however, as the years passed. ‘GGS 302T’ is a MKIV model which spanned the years 1976 to 1983 and was originally planned as its last hoorah dur the imminent arrival of the Metro. ‘GGS 302T’ is notable for its vivid Vermillion Red livery and black, extended wheel arches. These combine very well with the chrome bumpers and grill, the later oblong rear light clusters and tilting glass sunroof. The Mini, of course, is renowned for its peerless packaging making it almost unbelievably spacious considering it external dimensions. The cabin of ‘GGS 302T’ is no exception with it predominantly finished in grey and black hues. A tasteful wooden rimmed steering wheel is fitted giving ‘GGS 302T’ even more period character. The vendor rates the interior and bodywork as “good” and the paintwork as “average.”

The erstwhile A-series was still in service in 1979 and ‘GGS 302T’ is fitted with the 998cc version of the transversely mounted unit. In this case power is transferred to the front wheels via a three speed automatic transmission. Whilst this configuration is unlikely to win many traffic light Grand Prix, the verve and nippy nature of the Mini remains undiminished. The vendor rates the engine, transmission and electrics as “good.”

In summary:

  • A vibrant looking MKIV Mini in increasingly popular automatic guise
  • Complete with a good archive of supporting paperwork
  • Classified as zero rated for road tax and exempt from MOT
