Saab, of course, were early adopters of turbocharging technology and introduced their seminal 99 Turbo in 1978. Such a success was it that when the bigger 900 was launched in that a turbo version inevitably followed. ‘J745PBU’ is a vibrant looking example of the 900 Turbo dating from 1992 and hence presenting in post facelift and final form of the first generation 900. ‘J745 PBU’ has been in the current ownership for a number of years and has formed part of his large, personal collection since then. ‘J745 PBU’ is offered here with a long current MOT until April 2026 and has been recently fully recommissioned for immediate use and enjoyment. ‘J745 PBU’ is reported to include an extensive paperwork history. The Saab 900 Turbo is renowned for its rugged longevity with one example in America being gifted to Saab by its owner who had covered over 1M miles on the original engine and turbo.
Saab were acknowledged masters of turbocharging doing much more than many competitors to properly integrate the turbo technology into their cars. Their secret was the use of the Bosch manufactured APC unit, or automatic performance control, which would adapt the turbo’s boost and characteristics dependant on conditions and driving style. ‘J745 PBU’ features the 145bhp version of the robust four cylinder petrol engine compete with Garret turbocharger. In ‘J745 PBU’ this is mated to a five speed manual transmission which helps fully exploit the flexibility of this power unit. ‘J745 PBU’ has recently been recommissioned ready for use to include a full service, attention to brakes, new hoses, fluids, filters. The Saab’s engine, transmission and electrics are all rated as “good.”
‘J745 PBU’ presents in vibrant red with black finished lower sections and the big safety bumpers so associated with the 900 model. A standard rubber boot spoiler is fitted as is a set of the desirable three spoke “Aero style” alloy wheels. The cabin is finished in practical grey cloth with other aspects of the cabin being finished in black. The 900 Turbo shared a key attribute with all other 900’s, and that is a highly practical and adaptable cabin, in this case with a big, accessible hatchback. The bodywork and interior are rated as “good,” with the paintwork being judged “average.”
In summary:
· A desirable example of the iconic 1990’s Saab 900 Turbo
· Recently recommissioned and offered with a long, current MOT
· Complete with lots of accompanying paperwork and invoices
