The delightful 100E on offer was first registered in 1958 as ‘162 OMA’ but rechristened ‘KSL 513’ in 1978. It has had nine keepers during its 65 years, the most recent of whom acquired the Anglia from a Welsh museum in 2019, and has employed it for local shows in the Greater Manchester area. Its black bodywork serves as a perfect contrast to the orange and cream-coloured interior trim. Extras include a pair of wing mirrors, a full width steel sun visor and a heater – a luxury back in the day. The only nod to more modern motoring is the inclusion of an electronic ignition system, and the vendor currently considers the side-valve engine, three-speed manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘good’ order. The Ford is now available for purchase and comes complete with its original buff log book and a large history file. The odometer presently registers an unwarranted but nevertheless totally credible total mileage of 32,255.
The 100E Anglia that took over from its ‘sit up and beg’ E494A forbear was a breath of fresh air. It was a completely new car that contained designed cues from the three-box Consul and Taunus that preceded it to market. Decidedly more modern looking, the newcomer was of unitary construction rather than the body-on-separate-chassis arrangement of its predecessor, while the front suspension featured what we now know as MacPherson struts. At first glance the 1172cc side valve engine looked like a carry-over item, but was in fact a much updated unit. Introduced in 1953, the 100E remained in production for seven years before being usurped by the very different and American-looking 105E, complete with its tiny tailfins and backward-slanted rear window. Total sales for the 100E Anglia were 345,841.
