‘XHJ 758N’ represents the third, or C3, generation of Corvette and the second to carry the iconic “Stingray” name. ‘XHJ 758N’ was imported from the dry state of Kansas in 2020 and underwent a significant rebuild and recommissioning on its arrival in the UK. Work included the fitting of a new engine and gearbox as well as an uprated radiator to address the overheating issues to which C3s are prone. The sublime popup lights were converted from vacuum to electric actuation and power steering was fitted. The current, and second, UK owner acquired ‘XHJ 758N’ in May 2022 and beautifully restored the seats with Italian leather and replaced the carpets. With 91,500 miles on the odometer and offered with NO RESERVE, ‘XHJ 758N’ is complete with ample paperwork and registered as an Historic Vehicle – hence MOT exempt and zero rated for vehicle excise duty.
The distinctively styled C3 Corvette was based on the 1964 Mako Shark II concept car. In a famous automotive own goal, toy maker Matel released their Hot Wheels version of the new Corvette weeks before Chevrolet officially unveiled it. ‘XHJ 758N’ is a perfect exemplar of the striking design and finished in white. The paintwork and bodywork are less than perfect in places with the vendor rating it as “below average” in that respect. ‘XHJ 758N’ employs a mix of the familiar “roulette wheel” style wheel trims and chromed beauty ring to bring an alloy wheel look to the 15-inch steel wheels. A matching set of 70-profile tyres are fitted.
The cabin looks sublime courtesy of the newly refinished seats dressed in blue Italian leather. These combined with matching and new carpets and the sports orientated cabin fixtures and fittings make for a heady mix. The deeply recessed main gauges and bank of supplemental clocks are particularly eye catching. ‘XHJ 758N’ benefits from twin removable roof panels that quickly transform the snug coupe into a “T-bar” convertible.
‘XHJ 758N’ packs a 350 cu in (5.7-litre) V8 engine under that long, shapely bonnet. This is paired with a three speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission, both of which were reported as new in 2020. A generous archive of paperwork is included as are a workshop manual and original owner’s manual.
In summary:
· Fully mechanically rebuilt and recommissioned in 2020
· Just two UK keepers recorded since import in 2020
· A superb, retrimmed interior with blue Italian leather
