This much-loved Stag deserves a caring new home, having been off the road for the last 14 months due to the ill health of the vendor. He’s owned the triumph for the past 15 years and used it daily until forced to cease driving and keeping the Triumph maintained. It is finished in French Blue, trimmed in black leather and rides on new 15 inch Minilite wheels (the original GKN wheels come with the car). We understand the engine is free of the overheating problems that can afflict the model and that the radiator hoses are ‘in great condition’. The unit currently runs on a Holley 4-barrel carburettor (the original Stromberg ones come with the car). The vendor says the bodywork ‘is very straight’ but notes there is a degree of micro-blistering on the roof of the hard top. Other points of note include: the hood material apparently needs replacing and the clutch system has suffered a loss of fluid.
This well-equipped example boasts new seat belts; stainless steel exhaust system; Pioneer multi-CD changer with removable header unit and remote control; plus chrome cam covers, air filter housing and tow hook cover. Currently displaying a total of 62,580 miles, this fine looking Triumph seemingly only needs a modicum of TLC to reward its next keeper with many years of pleasurable motoring.
Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, fully independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and driveline of that saloon. Production ceased in 1977 after some 25,877 examples had been made.
