Chassis No. – WF0CXXGAECDM52243
M.O.T. – Exempt
Odometer – 70,000
With Ford’s affordable sports coupe first launching in 1969, the model enjoyed a long and successful life. ‘A68 PVX’ represents the apogee of the line in MKIII form and featuring the Cologne 2.8 fuel injected V6 engine. Staggeringly, ‘A68 PVX’ is offered from a period of ownership of nearly 40 years. The current vendor is only the second owner to date, with the first covering just the first one year and five months of this car’s history. The current owner has fastidiously cared for ‘A68 PVX,’ changing the oil every 3,000 miles and always garaging the car between uses. Regular serving has also been performed by the owner. A full restoration has reportedly been undertaken by a Capri specialist. Additional recent maintenance has included a new exhaust, new discs, pads and callipers, new springs and new shock absorbers on the rear. ‘A68 PVX’ is registered as an Historic Vehicle and hence MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax.
The Cologne 2.8-litre fuel injected V6 engine found a home in the Capri for the first time in 1982 to replace the 3.0-litre Essex unit in the range topping cars. Shortly thereafter the four speed manual transmission was replaced with a five speed, and plusher velour trim was specified. ‘A68 PVX’ features all these desirable assets making it an optimally equipped example. ‘A68 PVX’ is finished in Strato Silver Metallic with the familiar grey and red “Injection” decals. The 7J x 13-inch “pepper pot” alloy wheels are another signature of the 2.8i Capri as is the big, black finished boot spoiler. ‘A68 PVX’ is fitted with a factory, steel, tilt and slide manual sunroof. The interior features the highly specified Recaro front seats and a pair of split / fold rear seats. All are finished in the later luxury velour in grey. The paintwork and bodywork is rated as “excellent” and the interior as “good.”
At launch Ford quoted an output of around 160PS for the V6 Cologne engine. Although this may have been a little optimistic, when matched with the five speed manual transmission, as here, 130mph was realistic together with a sub 8-second 0-60 mph time. With all the diligent attention it has received, ‘A68 PVX’ garners an “excellent” rating for engine and gearbox and a “good” for electrics.
In summary:
· A two owner car from a nearly 40 year period of diligent ownership
· Subject to a previous specialist restoration
· Tax and MOT exempt and ready to enjoy
