Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

Lot 99

1986 Austin Mini City

Chassis No. - SAXXL2S1020297453

Registration - C672 XFD

M.O.T. - January 2022

Odometer – 87,000

‘C672 XFD’ started life as an unassuming Mini City, but in the words of the vendor has ‘undergone a significant transformation’. It remains in its original, apparently quite rare, livery of Champagne Beige, but nowadays rides on 12-inch Gunmetal Grey Superlite alloy wheels. Other exterior tweaks include a quick-release radiator grille, Austin Cooper bonnet badge and old style black and white number plates (modern yellow and white ones are included in the sale). The interior is notable for its smart red leather upholstery, leather-rimmed steering wheel and drilled alloy door furniture. The Mini is powered by a 1098cc version of the ubiquitous A Series engine that’s fed by a pair of SU carburettors. It currently registers a total mileage of 87,000 and comes with a degree of history and a current MOT that’s valid until January 22 next year. In summary the vendor says, ‘it is a fantastic little car that looks great and drives even better’.

What’s now classed as the Classic Mini was launched to an awed public in 1959, and continued in varying forms and under ever-changing management until 2000, by which time 5,387,862 examples had been produced. In 1999 it was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Model T Ford.

In summary:

  • A unique up-specced example of the Mini City
  • Luxury red leather interior trim
  • Twin SU-fed 1098cc engine
