The Gold Cup – Classic, Performance & Supercar Auction

Lot 25

1983 Vauxhall Astra S
***NO RESERVE*** A time-warp example with only 40,000 miles

Registration – CFR 546Y

Chassis No. – 33D2588026

M.O.T. – April 2027

Odometer – 39,106

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find genuinely original examples of the cars that once populated Britain's roads, and this wonderfully preserved 1983 Vauxhall Astra 1.2 S is a particularly charming example.

Showing just 39,000 miles, it has had only one former keeper, while the current owner has cherished the car for an impressive 23 years. The result is an Astra that presents in remarkable time-warp condition and retains the simplicity and originality that make cars of this era so appealing today.

Finished in its attractive period blue, the car remains wonderfully unspoilt, retaining its original-style steel wheels, black bumpers, Vauxhall badging and simple exterior trim. There are no unnecessary modifications or modern embellishments; it looks exactly as an early 1980s Astra should.

The interior is perhaps even more evocative. Its simple black dashboard, original instrumentation and switchgear remain in place, together with its period Philips stereo. It is precisely this level of originality that gives the car such character, providing an increasingly rare glimpse into what everyday motoring looked and felt like more than four decades ago.

Powered by the modest 1.2-litre engine, the S was never intended to be an exotic or high-performance machine. Instead, it was straightforward, economical family transport, and therein lies much of this example's appeal. Cars like these were used, worn out and replaced rather than preserved, making genuinely original survivors increasingly difficult to find.

With just one former keeper, 23 years in its current ownership and only 39,000 miles showing, CFR 546Y is a delightful survivor from a very different era of motoring.

Accompanied by an MOT until April 2027 and offered entirely without reserve, this is a wonderfully nostalgic opportunity for the collector who values originality, low ownership and genuine period character.
