Few British sports cars have enjoyed the enduring popularity of the MGB GT, and ‘GRB 631N’ is a particularly interesting example thanks to its uprated mechanical specification and impressively detailed history file.

At the heart of the car is a 1950cc Stage II engine. The accompanying documentation records that the reconditioned unit was sourced from the MG Owners’ Club and installed in ‘GRB 631N’ in June 1997, with its first run taking place that August. The specification sheet records twin 1.5-inch SU carburettors with AAA needles and K&N filtration, together with uprated ignition and exhaust arrangements.

The substantial history file provides an unusually detailed insight into the car's development over several decades. Period photographs document earlier restoration work, including images annotated ‘GRB631N May 93 Rebuild’, showing attention to the front bodywork and surrounding structure.

Further invoices demonstrate continued investment in the car. Documentation from Acceleration Services records substantial structural work undertaken in 2014, including removal of the interior, cutting out affected sections around the floor, chassis leg and sill area, fabrication and welding of replacement panels, sealing and protective treatment before the interior was refitted.

More recently, the MGB has benefited from considerable mechanical expenditure. An invoice from Oliver Wardle Classic Cars dated May 2026 totals £2,221.88 and records an engine service, gearbox oil change and brake-fluid flush, together with attention to the differential, replacement rear wheel bearings and oil seals, carburettor cleaning, balancing and adjustment, a new SU fuel pump, new stainless-steel manifold and exhaust system and replacement nearside rear axle brake pipe.

The odometer currently displays 39,450 miles and the car passed its most recent MOT in April 2026, with the certificate valid until 13 April 2027. It should be noted that historic documentation records the car's mileage as 117,390 when the present engine was installed in 1997; consequently, the current odometer reading should not be interpreted as the vehicle's total mileage.

Offered with its substantial collection of invoices, historic restoration photographs, engine specification and installation records, current V5C and MOT documentation, ‘GRB 631N’ represents an interesting and extensively documented MGB GT that combines the model's familiar character with a considerably more purposeful mechanical specification.
