February 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 1

1972 Bultaco Sherpa T125 Trials
*** NO RESERVE ***

This immaculate 125cc junior trials Sherpa was until recently part of a large private collection of such motorcycles, and has self-evidently benefited from a suitably sympathetic restoration. Featuring a red tank matched to a silver frame and mudguards it is hard to fault, and highly collectable. A rare opportunity.

The Spanish marque of Bultaco was established in 1958 by Francesc Bultó following an argument with Pere Permanyer, the man with whom he had created the Montesa marque back in 1944. The Sherpa was the model that quite simply changed the face of trials competition. Prior to its creation, the branch of motorcycle competition concerned was dominated by large, heavy British four-strokes. It was pressure from the renowned Irish trials champion Sammy Miller that persuaded Bultaco to pair an example of its proven lightweight two-stroke engine with an innovative high riding frame. The result was unbeatable, allowing Miller to annexe the Scottish Six Day Trial in 1965, 1967 and 1968. The model went on to dominate the sport well into the 1970s. Over time it was offered with a variety of different capacity engines.

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.
