1982 Jaguar XJS Coupe
*** NO RESERVE *** Recently fitted with overhauled Jaguar XK 4.2L engine and manual gearbox

The metallic bronze paintwork of this XJS coupe is matched to a tan leather interior. So far so standard. However, the space originally occupied by Jaguar’s super-smooth but thirsty V12 engine is now filled with an overhauled 4.2-litre straight-six Jaguar XK unit, as so successfully fitted to thousands of the company’s MKIIs, E-Types and XJ6s. Moreover, rather than drive through the automatic transmission most frequently found in XJ-S models, it is connected to a five-speed manual Jaguar unit. So here we have a unique cat of interesting pedigree, in which enthusiasts of XK-engined models would possibly feel more at home than in the car before it was modified 21,000 miles ago. The engine runs on a pair of SU carburettors and the high fifth gear makes for relaxed (and presumably reasonably economical) cruising. The vendor informs us that ‘CVN 183Y’ ‘drives very well’ and presently regards the engine, gearbox and bodywork as ‘good’ and the interior and paintwork as ‘average’ – evidently the fuel gauge isn’t currently functioning and the Jaguar would benefit from a replacement headlining. He is now offering the car complete with a large selection of invoices, most of the MOTs collected since the car was new, plus a current one valid into March of next year. An interesting proposition.

Launched in September 1975, the XJ-S (later XJS) was designed by Malcolm Sayer with input from Sir William Lyons. Though effectively a replacement for the legendary E-Type, it was a cat of very different character – a luxurious, high-speed grand tourer rather than a race-bred sports car. Based on the XJ saloon, it was a two-door monocoque equipped with all-round independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering.

  • Comes with lots of history and a year’s MOT
