The Gold Cup – Classic, Performance & Supercar Auction

1969 MG B Roadster
***NO RESERVE*** Exemplary restored example with gold seal engine and overdrive

Registration – UVF 534H

Chassis No. – GHN4182845G

M.O.T. – N/A

Odometer – 10,000

Introduced in 1962, the MGB quickly established itself as one of Britain's most successful and enduring sports cars. Combining attractive Pininfarina-influenced styling with dependable B-Series power, comfortable touring manners and engaging rear-wheel-drive handling, the MGB became the quintessential British roadster. More than half a century later, it remains one of the most usable and enjoyable classic convertibles, supported by an unrivalled parts supply and enthusiastic owners' community.

Offered here is a beautifully presented 1969 MGB Roadster, finished in traditional MG Red with a complementary biscuit interior. The car has clearly benefited from a previous restoration and has since been meticulously maintained, resulting in an example that is equally suited to relaxed summer touring, classic car events or continued enthusiastic ownership.

The vendor informs us the car is fitted with a desirable Gold Seal replacement engine, previously installed by a former owner, together with new carburettors and rear axle bearings. The engine bay presents exceptionally well and features twin K&N performance air filters, an Intermotor ignition coil and electronic ignition, providing improved reliability while retaining the character of the original powertrain.

Mechanically, the car has received continual maintenance throughout its life. Recent work includes a full service, carburettor tuning, valve clearance adjustment, replacement rocker cover gasket, a new offside front shock absorber, new offside rear wheel cylinder, together with a replacement speedometer and oil pressure gauge. The vendor advises the MGB starts readily, performs strongly and drives exactly as it should, benefitting greatly from its extensive maintenance history.

The exterior presents exceptionally well following its earlier restoration, with the MG Red paintwork displaying an excellent shine throughout. Chrome bumpers and brightwork remain in very good order with only light age-related patina, while the attractive 14-inch chrome wire wheels complement the car perfectly and are fitted with Falken and Nankang tyres offering ample tread.

Inside, the cabin retains much of its original charm, featuring a largely original biscuit interior complemented by attractive walnut veneer dashboard trim. The original seats remain in good usable condition with only sympathetic wear consistent with age. A Moto-Lita three-spoke wooden steering wheel enhances the driving experience, while new beige carpets and a quality mohair hood, fitted in 2019, further improve the overall presentation. A matching tonneau cover accompanies the car.

The history file is equally impressive. First registered in August 1969, the MGB has had just five former keepers and has been cherished by its current owner since 2023. The car has previously appeared at Concours d'Elegance events and is accompanied by an extensive history file including numerous MOT certificates, a substantial collection of invoices documenting maintenance, servicing and restoration work, the current V5C registration document, MG handbook, toolkit, knock-off hammer, jack and two sets of keys.

Beautifully presented, mechanically well sorted and supplied with extensive documentation, this charming MGB Roadster offers the opportunity to acquire one of Britain's most iconic open-top sports cars in highly desirable condition. Equally at home on winding country roads, classic touring events or local shows, it represents an outstanding example of this ever-popular British classic.
