The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 10

1977 Triumph T140 Flat-Track Replica
Built by Rick Parkington for Classic Bike magazine

Registration - TUF802S

Chassis No. - AP81096

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - TBC

This unique T140 was created by Rick Parkington for Classic Bike magazine, which published multiple articles on the build, copies of which accompany the lot. The bike’s flat-track style was inspired by the 750 Triumph on which Gene Romero won the 1970 AMA championship. The aluminium tank and seat unit were custom built by The Tank Shop, while the paintwork, decals and hand-applied pin-striping were carried out by Shadow Auto Styling. The twin-cylinder engine was fully rebuilt and treated to dynamic crank balancing and an unleaded fuel conversion by SRM Engineering, while the custom tig-welded stainless steel exhaust was fabricated by Alden Exhausts and the Mikuni carburettors re-jetted and set-up by Allen’s Performance. Other parts of significance include Yamaha wheels, Suzuki GS750 forks, EBC front discs and Dunlop K70 tyres. Following the build, the Triumph was given away in a competition. SRM purchased it from the winner, since when it has had three keepers, the most recent of whom acquired the machine in June 2021. He currently rates the engine and gearbox as ‘excellent, the frame, suspension, paintwork, and cycle parts as ‘good’, and the brightwork as ‘average’. This ‘fast and exciting ride’ has covered just 1,200-1,500 miles since its completion. As can be seen from the photos, there is some mild cosmetic damage to the rear of the seat unit

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.
