May 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 10

1989 Volkswagen Golf GTi
Only 35,000 miles

Registration - G465 WRW

Chassis No. - WVWZZZ1GZKW549177

M.O.T. - September 2022

Odometer - 35,600

This stunning-looking Golf is a one-owner car, but recorded as two as it was initially registered to the lady’s company. She sadly passed away in 2006, from when the car remained in storage until 2020, at which point it was transported to a dealer to be recommissioned. As a result, it now boasts new cam belt, brake discs and pads, tyres and sunroof seal, and refurbished steel wheels. The interior trim has also benefited from a degree of tidying, the engine has been serviced and all the car’s fluids renewed. Finished in the pleasing combination of Helios Blue bodywork and grey fabric interior trim, the Golf is now considered by the vendor to be ‘excellent’ in all major departments. Considering its history, it’s not surprising that just 35,600 warranted miles are currently displayed on the odometer, and all this lovely example now requires is a suitably appreciative new owner. It is now being offered complete with its original radio/cassette, owner’s handbook, service record and a selection of old MOTs, plus one valid to September 9. A great opportunity for Golf lovers everywhere.

Now in its eighth generation, the Golf GTi remains the hot hatch by which all rival products are judged. The inaugural version was made available to a delighted German public in June 1976, while it wasn’t until July 1979 that righthand drive versions landed on British shores. The very differently styled MK2 model assumed the GTi mantle in 1983. It was originally powered by an 8-valve engine of 1.8-litres capacity, but from 1985 there was the option of a pokey 16-valve version that was capable of whisking the hot hatch to almost 140mph.

In summary:

  • One lady owner and just 35,600 warranted miles from new
  • Thoroughly recommissioned following long-term storage
  • A splendid example that deserves a suitably caring new home
