1990 BMW 325i Cabriolet
Desirable Manual gearbox, complete with hard top

Registration - H20 CRY

Chassis No. - WBABB12040EB96064

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - 58,000

It’s hard to look at this very tidy cabriolet without thinking of the hot sunny days for which it was built, and which are hopefully not too far away now. It has been in the vendor’s care for the past 15 years, and he informs that it’s effectively original throughout save for some replacement wings, a full stainless exhaust system and upgraded headlights. He describes it as a ‘nice original car that runs and drives brilliantly’, and presently grades the five-speed manual transmission, Brilliant Red paintwork and full black interior trim as ‘excellent’, and the straight-six engine and cabriolet bodywork as ‘good’. He is now offering the BMW complete with strut brace, hard and soft tops, Sony radio/CD player, its original tool kit and a large history file containing the original book pack and selection of invoices and old MOTs.

Now in its seventh generation, BMW’s 3 Series is an automotive phenomenon and unique among the world’s executive expresses. Since succeeding the 2002 model in 1975, it has generally accounted for 30 per cent of the company’s annual car sales, is the bestselling car in its class, almost as well known in America, Asia and Australia as it is in Europe, and has frequently outsold much cheaper rivals. The model’s second incarnation, the E30, took to the roads in 1982. During its 10-year production run it could be purchased in no less than five body styles – two and four-door saloon, five-door touring and two-door convertible. Offered from 1985 to 1993, the 325i engine was a straight-six unit of 168bhp – sufficient output for a 0-60mph time of c.8.0 seconds and very respectable top speed of 135mph. Suspension was independent all round by MacPherson struts, lower wishbones and coil springs at the front and semi-trailing arms and coil springs at the rear. Steering was by rack and pinion. A total of 2,433,000 E30 BMWs had been made by the time the model gave way to the E35 in 1990.

In summary:

  • A very tidy original seven-keeper example
  • Has remained within the current ownership for 15 years
  • Features a full stainless steel exhaust and upgraded headlights
