1931 Velocette GTP 250cc Two-Stroke

This lovely period Velocette, presents very well and is said to start and run as it should. Apparently once finished in brown, it is now black throughout, which perfectly offsets the gold lettering of the tank, that proudly reminds us that Velocette were TT winners in 1926, 1928 and 1929. The machine has remained in the vendor’s care for the last nine years, and he informs us that the gearchange has been adapted from hand to foot, that the fuel tank would benefit from being relined, and, while the electrical system is fully functional, it could do with a bit of a tidy up. Overall, he grades the frame as ‘excellent’, and the two-stroke engine, four-speed transmission, suspension, paintwork, brightwork and cycle parts as ‘good’. The GTP comes complete with period tyres and a modest history file. The ultimate expression of the two-stroke line, the GTP 250cc was available from 1930 to 1946, initially with hand operated three-speed gearchange and latterly with a four-speed foot operated one. Front suspension was by Webb fork with shock absorber and steering damper, and that at the rear by sprung seat.
