February 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 11

1993 Rover 220 GTi
Nice original car, one of only 15 left on the road in the UK.

Registration - L734 FKX

Chassis No. - SAXXWXNCGAD723037

M.O.T. - January 2023

Odometer - 89,968

We understand from the vendor that ‘L734 FKX’ is one of just 15 220 GTis remaining on British roads. As part of a recent recommissioning process, it has benefited from a small amount of welding to a rear wheelarch and related sill, following which the Rover was treated to a full Waxoyling and respray in the classic colour of British Racing Green. The cylinder head gasket was replaced in order to cure an oil leak, so while the head was off the opportunity was taken to regrind the valves and replace the valve stem seals. At the same time the cam belt, sparking plugs, engine oil and oil, air, and fuel filters and battery were all replaced. The fuel tank was removed and cleaned and a new in-tank pump installed. The brake system was stripped, cleaned and fresh pads and fluids added. The bottom arms of the front suspension and CV joint boots also came in for replacement. The car’s interior is trimmed in grey cloth and it rides on its original alloy wheels that are shod in matching Dunlop Sport tyres. The odometer currently registers an unwarranted but entirely credible 89,968 miles from new, and the vendor presently grades the four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual gearbox as ‘excellent’, the three-door hatchback bodywork and paintwork as ‘good’, and the interior trim (eg there wear on the driver’s offside seat bolster) as ‘average’. He is now offering this rare hot hatch for sale complete with a tilt/slide sunroof and electrically operated windows and mirrors, plus a current MOT certificate valid to January 21 next year.

In summary:

  • A rare survivor of a rare breed
  • Has recently benefited from a thorough recommissioning
  • Smartly presented in a fresh coating of British Racing Green
