Lot 113

1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands

Registration – D280 VDY

Chassis No. – WF0CXXGAECGG11677

M.O.T. – July 2026

Odometer – 83,380

Registered on the 16th of March 1987 and bearing registration D280 VDY, this superbly presented Capri 280 is number 819 of the 1,038 cars built — a limited-edition run that marked the end of the legendary Ford Capri line. Finished exclusively in Brooklands Green and fitted with Raven Recaro leather, 15-inch seven-spoke alloys, and the proven 2.8-litre Cologne V6 with five-speed transmission and LSD, the 280 Brooklands remains one of the most desirable variants of the model.

This particular example was originally supplied by Gilbert Rice Ltd. (later Hancock Ford) of Horsham, Sussex, and first registered to Myrmiddon Subsea Controls Ltd., who retained the vehicle until 1991, covering the first 47,000 miles. It was then acquired by a company employee before passing to a Birmingham-based owner in 1994 at 54,000 miles. A year later, at 65,000 miles, the Capri found a new home with a Cheshire-based enthusiast.

The vendor — its fifth owner — acquired the car in March 1999, inheriting a comprehensive service history and 78,000 recorded miles. While the car was structurally sound, the bodywork bore the marks of regular use, so over the winter of 1999–2000 it was stripped to a rolling shell and professionally refinished by Bill Sheil Refinishers of Southport — a process carried out with great attention to detail, the results of which remain evident today.

Now showing 83,380 miles, the car retains its original stereo, service booklet, owner’s manual, and is MOT’d until July 2026. Having been dry stored and used sparingly for local shows and events, the vendor informs us it remains in highly original condition throughout — and notes that examples in this state are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

In summary:

- Number 819 of just 1,038 Capri 280 ‘Brooklands’ examples built — the final and most collectable iteration

- Well-documented ownership history from new; in current ownership since 1999
