The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 115

1969 Ford Escort MK I

Registration - WYA 161G

Chassis No. - BB44JR37026

M.O.T. - Exempt

‘WAY 161G’ is a surprise package that’s sure to get the blood of all fast Ford fans pumping. It may wear Mexico deals, but the muscular wheelarches filled with 8x15 inch alloy wheels and the big bore tailpipe hint at something more exciting, and rightly so. In fact, it began life as an unsuspecting Escort 1300 Super that’s been modified in every department. Under the bonnet lies a fully rebuilt stage 3 Sierra Cosworth 2WD engine that pumps out 340bhp. The clever bits include Accralite forged pistons, Ahmed Boojay stage 3 ECU, Bosch 803 green injectors, Garrett T34 turbo with Bailey dump valve, alloy sump and oil filter, Radtec Group 4 radiator and intercooler, and custom exhaust system. The unit drives through an AP4 paddle clutch to a fully refurbished Sierra Sapphire 2WD gearbox with short-shift conversion, and on via a one-piece propshaft to a Baby Atlas axle with biasing limited slip differential. The much uprated suspension system features a Watts 6 link kit, Gaz springs and damper units, alloy concentric top mounts, and strut brace. The equally uprated braking system incudes 330/30mm discs, 6-pot calipers, Ferodo DS2500 pads, user-adjustable front brake bias, and Goodridge braided hoses. The steering benefits from a quick rack and the aforementioned Compomotive wheels are shod with Falken sport tyres. The many interior upgrades include: fabricated roll cage, one-piece steering column, Momo steering wheel, Group 4 bias pedal box, Fibresport Indy dashboard, full range of instruments, Motordrive driver’s seat with four-point Sabelt harness, 12-gallon alloy safety fuel tank, and Facet fuel pump and filter. Adorning the nose are a quartet of Cibié spotlights. One could go on, but you get the picture!

In summary:

  • A fully sorted bespoke high-performance Escort
  • Powered by a 340bhp Sierra Cosworth engine
  • Transmission, brakes, steering and suspension all uprated to match
