Offered here is a rare and seemingly unmodified example of the fourth-generation Toyota Celica, finished in its original colour scheme and equipped with the desirable manual transmission. The vendor informs us that the car has covered just 52,000 miles from new and has recently been the subject of light restoration work, enhancing its already well-preserved condition.
The Celica ST162 has benefitted from an extensive mechanical refresh, including a full service with replacement of ignition leads, plugs, all filters, belts (including cambelt and auxiliary), as well as new engine and gearbox oil. Further mechanical attention included rebuilt driveshafts, new output differential seals, front wheel bearings, brake discs, pads and calipers all round, front and rear dampers, top mounts, and select fuel lines. The underside was stripped back, cleaned thoroughly and treated with a full wax oil coating to preserve it for the future. A repaint to both sides was also undertaken to smarten the presentation. Although the car has no accompanying service book, the vendor informs us that a file of invoices documents the recent work. It should be noted that the car was listed as a Category D insurance loss many years ago.
The ST162 Celica was launched in 1985, marking the beginning of the front-wheel-drive era for Toyota’s long-standing coupe model. With its aerodynamic lines, responsive handling and reliability, it helped cement the Celica’s reputation as a stylish and dependable sporting coupe, with strong sales across Europe and the US.
