An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 116

1992 Rover Mini Sprite 1275cc

Registration - K798 LGO

Chassis No. - SAXXNYADKBD057674

M.O.T. - February 2024

Odometer - 62,039

This immaculate Sprite is something of a surprise package. One of the last of the carburettor models, it was recently the subject of a

no-expense-spared restoration, during which the wings, A panels, bonnet, window rubbers, door seals etc were renewed, and repairs made to the scuttle and front and boot floor sections before the Mini received a complete respray in red. It was also treated to an engine upgrade, and now boasts a 1275cc A Series powerplant in place of the original 998cc one. And, to ensure the Sprite goes as well round corners as it does in a straight line, it now rides on offset Minilite–style alloy wheels with ‘good’ tyres. The interior remains standard with grey cloth upholstery. The vendor presently grades the very smart bodywork as ‘excellent’, and the engine, four-speed manual transmission, paintwork and interior trim as ‘good’. He is now selling ‘K798 LGO’ complete with its owner’s handbooks and a good history file containing a collection of receipts and old MOTs, plus a current certificate that’s valid right through to February 6 next year. The odometer currently registers an unwarranted but totally credible total mileage of 62,039.

Introduced in 1983, the Mini Sprite was released ahead of the Mini’s 25th Anniversary and revived a BMC/Leyland name that had been dormant since 1971. The Sprite was based on the City model and pitched between that version and the Mayfair. It was powered by a 998cc A Series engine and initially offered in just two colours – Cinnabar Red and Primula Yellow, which were teamed with black Mini Special wheelarch extensions, twin door mirrors, 1275 GT instrumentation and Clubman upper facia.

In summary:

  • The subject of a recent no-expense-spared restoration
  • Converted from 998 to 1275cc A Series power
  • Comes with a good history file and current MOT
