The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 122

1965 Morris Minor 1000

Registration - JPJ 469C

Chassis No. - MA2S51114291

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 86,000

Originally grey, this eye-catching two-door Morris Minor was treated to a new persona when resprayed its current bright red back in 1999. The vendor informs us that ‘RPJ 469C’ has been owned and tended to by the female of the species since 2003. He currently classes the bodywork, paintwork, black vinyl seats and red carpets, 1098cc A Series engine, and four-speed manual gearbox as all being in ‘excellent’ condition. He adds that the Morris ‘stars first time, drives really well for its age with nice quiet changes in all the gears, and attracts lots of waves and smiles’. The odometer currently registers a very credible though unwarranted total mileage of 86,000, and the car is now being offered complete with lots of history in the way of bills, old MOTs and tax discs, manuals etc. A perfect starter classic or charming ultra-British addition to any collection.

The Morris Minor is almost as universal a symbol of England as the London bus and the red telephone box and, with over 1.3 million manufactured in its 23-year reign, is one of the most successful cars of all time. Designed by Alec Issigonis (who later penned the ubiquitous Mini), the Minor was unveiled at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show and 13 years later became the first British car to achieve a million sales. The final iteration followed a year later and featured an increase in engine capacity to 1098cc, a modified facia layout with recessed centre section in textured steel, a return of a glovebox lid for the passenger-side cubby hole, plus an improved heater and more contemporary–looking front light units.

In summary:

  • An apparently very tidy example inside and out
  • Comes complete with chrome door mirrors and headlamp eyebrows
  • Accompanied by lots of history
