An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 122

1995 Volkswagen Corrado VR6 Storm
Engine rebuild and upgrades by Schrick Performance

Registration - N803 SPB

Chassis No. - WVWZZZ50ZSK002930

M.O.T. - April 2024

Odometer - 190,204

There tends to be a waiting list for standard VR6 Corrados, so it will be interesting to see what attention this uprated Storm example draws. For those who don’t know, the Storm was a UK-only run-out version of the Corrado, of which only 500 examples were made – so rare in period and very rare now. They came in two colours – Mystic Blue and Classic Green, rode on 15-inch BBS Solitude alloy wheels and featured a fully-specified cabin with leather upholstery throughout. The striking looking green sale car has the added benefit of a Schrick cylinder head, inlet manifold and camshafts, and a dose of ECU re-mapping. The resulting rolling road figures were 226bhp (36 more than standard) and 208 lb ft of torque, which allows the 0-60mph dash to be achieved in under six seconds. Though the VW’s seven keepers to date have amassed a fairly hefty 190,204 miles between them, only 70,000-miles have been added since the powerplant was rebuilt by the renowned Volkswagen engine tuners Stealth Racing. The vendor has owned ‘N803 SPB’ for the last 11 years, and recently treated it to a partial respray and replacement of the brake discs and pads, coil pack, mass air flow sensor, cam position sensor, ball joints, fuel filter and battery. He presently classifies the engine and five-speed manual gearbox as ‘excellent’, the green paintwork and black-piped cream leather interior trim as ‘good’, and the hatchback bodywork as ‘average’. He is now offering the Storm complete with Sony radio/CD, book pack that includes a service record complete to 154,770 miles, and a current MOT valid into April next year.

Manufactured on behalf of Volkswagen by Karmann, the Corrado front-wheel drive coupe had a production span of the seven years from 1988 to 1995, during which just 97,521 examples were built. It was offered with a range of powerplants varying in capacity from 1.8 to 2.9 litres.

In summary:

  • A special example of the 500-off limited-edition Storm model
  • Engine uprated with Schrick cylinder head, inlet manifold and cam
  • The recipient of much TLC and attention in the last couple of years
