November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 123

1987 Peugeot 205 CTI

Registration - E919 NNV

Chassis No. - VF320DB6201285399

M.O.T. - July 2022

Odometer - 83,718

The MOT record for this spritely cabriolet version of Peugeot’s iconic 205 GTI confirms that it’s covered just 400 miles or so in the past four years, and a relatively modest overall figure of 83,718 from new. Its bright red paintwork is generally tidy save for a few small chips on the boot lid and a minor scuff on the offside of the front spoiler, and is complemented by an apparently unmarked set of period correct ‘pepperpot’ alloy wheels. The Peugeot’s grey cloth interior would, however, now benefit from a little cosmetic TLC. The vendor describes the transmission, electrics, bodywork and tyres as ‘good’, and the car benefits from having had a new soft top, tonneau cover, brake calipers, handbrake cables, radiator and ignition coil. He informs us that the Peugeot ‘starts and drives well’ and is selling it complete with an MOT valid to July 27 next year. With its relatively low mileage, ‘E919 NNV’ would be an ideal modern classic to lavish some time and attention on.

Launched in 1983, the Peugeot 205 quickly caught the public’s imagination, perfectly bridging the gap between the diminutive 104 and the family-sized 305. Accolades were rapidly showered on the range, which was voted What Car’s ‘Car of the Year’ in 1984 and Car Magazine’s ‘Car of the Decade’ in 1990. It was enormously popular from launch, with the GTI – one of the all-time great hot hatches – the most notable version of all. In 1986, Peugeot introduced the CTI – a cabriolet with virtually all the cosmetic and performance attractions of the GTI combined with open-topped motoring. A win-win combination.

In summary:

  • A relatively low mileage example of the desirable 205 CTI
  • Would benefit from some light refurbishment of the interior
  • A collectable and appreciating modern classic
