November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 129

1981 Mini City

Registration - AFM 264W

Chassis No. - SAXXL2S1010779997

M.O.T - August 2022

Odometer - 51,780

This tidy little base model Mini hails from 1981. Finished in red with white striping and trimmed in black and white fabric, it appears remarkably unmolested. It was evidently retained by the previous keeper for no less than 15 years and has recently benefited from new subframes and wheel cylinders. Recently valeted, it is currently regarded by the vendor as having ‘excellent 1000cc A series engine and four-speed manual transmission, and ‘good’ bodywork, paintwork and upholstery - in summary he adds that the car ‘is nice and clean and drives very well’. ‘AFM 264W’ comes complete with history file containing a selection of invoices, owners and workshop manuals, V5C and a current MOT valid to August 24 next year.

What is now known as the ‘Classic Mini’ (as opposed to the BMW Mini) needs little introduction. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, who had previously penned the Morris Minor, it took the market by storm when it was introduced in 1959 as BMC’s response to the Suez crisis. Production continued until the year 2000, by which time over 5.3 million examples had been sold, making it the best-selling single model of British car in history.

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.

Estimated at £5,000 - £7,000
