  Lot 13

1922 Citroen B2 Torpedo
A rare RHD example

Registration - HR 7562

Chassis No. - 48161A

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 963

The exquisite Torpedo-bodied B2 on offer is a rare righthand drive example that was first UK registered in the December of 1922. The open bodywork was constructed by S&A Fuller of Bath, whose plaque it still bears to this day. Extra features commissioned by the first keeper include an electric start, uprated suspension, folding rear windscreen, and rear luggage rack. ‘HR7 562’ was treated to a comprehensive restoration some eight years ago after being dry stored since 1957. The vendor now considers the engine, three-speed manual transmission, coachwork, Slate Blue paintwork and black repro leather interior trim to all be in ‘excellent’ order, and adds that the Torpedo ‘runs and drives as it should, with no defects’. He is now offering this handsome vintage motorcar complete with an as-new black hood, four equally fresh-looking tyres, the original fuel metering stick, brass fire extinguisher and klaxon, plus a host of other period features and history file.

The B2 was Citroen’s second model, which was manufactured at the company’s Parisian factory just five minutes from the Eiffel Tower between May 1921 and July 1926. It boasted more power than its predecessor, thanks the size of its four-cylinder engine being increased from 1327 to 1452cc. Following a wartime visit to the Ford plant in Dearborn, André Citroën was able to apply some of the American company’s mass production techniques to his own business, and by 1925 c.200 B2s per day were being made. In theory the model was offered with no less than 25 body styles, but in practice manufacture focused on Torpedo (an open car with streamlined bodywork), Torpedo Sport, Conduite Intérieure (saloon), Coupé De Ville (town car) and Sport. Total B2 production numbered 89,841 cars.

In summary:

  • A charming UK spec. example in stunning condition throughout
  • Fully restored some eight years ago
  • Registered in 1922; dry stored for 57 years
