September 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 13

2000 Porsche Boxster 3.2 S

Registration - R25 JAL

Chassis No. - WP0ZZZ98Z1U640512

M.O.T. - August 2023

Odometer - 110,000

Enthusiasts are finally waking up to what stunning value-for-money the early Boxsters are in today’s market. Some are of course looking a little tatty now, but not so ‘R25 JAL’ which, 22 years on, is considered by the vendor to have ‘excellent’ flat-six engine and six-speed manual transmission, and ‘good’ bodywork, paintwork and upholstery, and ‘drive beautifully with superb performance and handling’. It is finished in grey and trimmed in contrasting light tan leather. Evidently the car has benefited from much ongoing maintenance, to the point that the majority of the suspension and brake components, clutch and hood have all been replaced over time – the latter complete with a glass rather plastic rear screen. The Porsche is now offered together with its original book pack, a full set of receipts from new, and all its old MOTs plus a current one valid to August 12 next year. Premium wind in the hair motoring has surely never been more affordable.

The chic two-seater Boxster was unveiled in late 1996 and penned by Dutch designer Harm Lagaay, who was also primarily responsible for Porsche’s 968, 993, Cayenne, 996 and Carrera GT. The Boxster sobriquet was a contraction of ‘boxer-engined roadster’ – the newcomer being a convertible with water-cooled flat-six engine mounted amid-ships. At launch it was 2.5-litres in capacity, but the standard offering was increased to 2.7-litres in 2000, coincident with the introduction of the higher-performance 3.2-litre S. That version featured bigger wheels, upgraded braking and suspension systems and notably more performance - with 252bhp on tap it could sprint to 60mph in six seconds and on to a top speed of 160mph. Some 47,000 3.2-litre Boxster Ss were built between 1996 and 2002.

In summary:

  • A well-presented example of the sought-after 3.2 S
  • Boasts lots of service history and a full set of receipts from new
  • Has benefited from many replacement parts over the years
