The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 138

2006 Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works

Registration - OE06 HSZ

Chassis No. - WMWRE32020TK88834

M.O.T. - November 2021

Odometer - 105,709

When BMW launched the new MINI marque in late 2000, its range naturally featured options whose name was instantly familiar to any fan of the original incarnation of this iconic small car – the Cooper and Cooper S. In 2002 MINI went one step further, with the John Cooper Works (JCW) Tuning Kit, produced by Michael Cooper, son of the legendary John. ‘OE06 HSZ’ is an apparently excellent 2006 example of the Cooper S member of the JCW family. Built in the final months of production of the first-generation MINI Cooper S, it’s a much sought-after model, and a future classic in the making.

With its supercharged 1.6-litre Tritec engine, twin exhausts and distinctive bonnet ‘scoop’, the MINI Cooper S was already the sportiest member of the family. The engine tuning and uprated transmission and exhaust of the John Cooper Works option took it up to another level, boosting the power output to 210 bhp and reducing the 0-60mph time to 6.4 seconds.

This genuine factory JCW Cooper S has had just one previous keeper and combines a stylish colour combination of Astro Black metallic with a full black leather interior, heated seats and a full panoramic electric sunroof. It is exactly as it emerged from the MINI JCW treatment, other than the alloy header tank which replaced the plastic original, as these were prone to splitting, and the non-standard but period Alpine stereo with Bluetooth capability. Its history file includes early records from Sytner High Wycombe and Maidstone MINI, and it was serviced on August 6 this year.

In summary:

  • A very well maintained, low owner car, serviced this month
  • An unmolested example of a genuine factory John Cooper Works Cooper S
  • Potent performance from this sporty little machine
