The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 146

1967 MG BGT

Registration - MVF 138E

Chassis No. - GHD3128964

M.O.T. - July 2022

Odometer - 242

This competition-prepared 1967 MG BGT was fully restored in 2014, since when it has covered just 550 miles as its enthusiast owner has been busy racing another car. The vendor tells us that it is generally in excellent condition all-round. The comprehensive restoration included a bare metal respray and underbody colour, rebuilt suspension with extra camber bottom wishbones fitted, new brakes and electrics and a new four-branch tubular exhaust manifold. The engine was rebuilt, balanced and uprated to 1840cc and the overdrive gearbox rebuilt. Note: the vendor tells us that since restoration the speedometer has been reconditioned and reads 242 miles rather than the 550 actually covered.

A full, bolt-in FIA roll cage is fitted, together with race seats and five-point seatbelts. The vendor advises us that the seats and seatbelts are suitable for sprinting and track days but may need updating for racing. To keep weight down ‘MVF 138E‘ has GRP bonnet, front wings and boot lid, and plastic windows. The lightweight boot lid is new but does have some GRP cracks. Further weight loss has been gained by fitting a race battery. The car has Toyo Proxes R888 tyres. The vendor tells us that the car starts first time and runs and drives well, and notes that the engine might need another tune once it is run in a little more.

The Pininfarina-designed MG BGT was the original sporting hatchback, and specially-tuned versions achieved notable motorsport success in the 1960s. This fully-restored example is an ideal and fun way to go historic racing and, with the car eligible for numerous club and international historic race series, the successful bidder should have no difficulty filling their race calendar.

In summary:

  • A fully-restored, competition-prepared MG BGT
  • Just 550 miles covered since a comprehensive restoration in 2014
  • Ideal for many historic race series and competition events
