The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 147

1961 Bentley S2

Registration - DSK 760

Chassis No. - B674CU

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 34,600

The many MOT certificates in its history file show that this beautiful Bentley S2 saloon has covered just 34,600 miles since it was built 60 years ago.

Over the past four years ‘DSK 760’ has been off the road while undergoing refurbishment, including a full engine tune and complete underseal. The original white paintwork was professionally resprayed two-tone silver in 2020, and the result enhances the car’s elegant lines. Bodywork, paintwork, electrics and transmission are all described as ‘excellent’, while the full leather interior has the patina expected after more than half a century.

The refurbishment was carried out by classic car specialists, and receipts for all the work are included in the car’s documentation. The vendor, the car’s fifth owner, has owned it since 2008 and says that it runs and rides beautifully.

Bentley produced the S2 from 1959 to 1962. Just 2308 were built. Essentially a re-badged Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II, the S2 gained significant power over the 4.9-litre S1 with the introduction of the new, all-aluminium, 6230cc, V8 L Series engine. This was a game-changer; the S2 may have been as stately as its predecessor but it was now a smooth, powerful grand tourer, with a 0-60mph time of 11 seconds and a top speed of 115mph.

In addition to the V8 engine, the S2 gained automatic transmission, electrically operated ride control and power steering as standard. Press-button windows replaced the wind-up windows of its predecessor, the rear window acquired an electric demister and the increased power output of the new engine allowed for greatly-improved air conditioning. In terms of performance and occupant comfort, the S2 was a major step forward.

In summary:

  • Elegant luxury grand tourer with MOT certificates documenting the 34,600 mileage
  • Fresh from a four-year refurbishment including a professional respray, engine tune and complete underseal
  • A very stylish and comfortable motor car
