2013 Wildmoor Hawke
Rare Morgan-inspired roadster, professionally built with just 2,471 miles

An unusual and charismatic alternative to the traditional British roadster, ‘HK63 BVZ’ is a Wildmoor Hawke, a Morgan-inspired two-seat sports car combining traditional styling with considerably more modern mechanicals.

The Hawke was originally developed by GCS Cars during the 1990s. According to the accompanying history, production rights subsequently passed to Tiger Racing before being acquired by LCD in 2003, where the design was developed to accommodate Ford's Zetec range of engines. Production remained extremely limited, with the Hawke Owners’ Club estimating that only around 135–145 examples were produced in total.

This particular example has an especially interesting history. According to the substantial accompanying documentation, it was professionally constructed as a one-off project by Wildmoor Motor Traction Company of Oldbury, near Birmingham. The kit is understood to have been one of the last produced and was acquired from a private seller who lived only a few miles from the LCD workshop.

Construction commenced in 2011, with work undertaken outside Wildmoor's racing commitments. The car successfully passed its IVA test during the summer of 2013 and was registered with the DVLA in October that year, before being finally completed and delivered in February 2014.

At its heart is a 2.0-litre Ford Zetec ‘Blacktop’ engine equipped with throttle bodies and a programmable ECU, which the accompanying documentation states was tuned to produce approximately 186bhp. Power is transmitted through Ford running gear, while adjustable shock absorbers and a sporting side-exit exhaust further enhance the car's purposeful character.

The traditional appearance disguises relatively modern construction. Unlike the ash-framed aluminium bodywork associated with a Morgan, the Hawke employs a one-piece GRP body tub with an integral floor mounted to a box-frame chassis.

Finished in attractive Royal Ivory with contrasting black wire wheels, the car has a particularly convincing period appearance. The accompanying information states that a number of genuine Morgan components were incorporated during its construction, including the leather steering wheel, stainless-steel luggage rack, Smiths instruments, door mirrors, torpedo lights and wire wheels, while the exterior colour is also understood to be from the Morgan colour palette.

Inside are black leather sports seats complemented by Sabelt four-point harnesses, while weather protection is provided by a black Everflex hood. The simple dashboard, Smiths instrumentation and compact cockpit retain the character expected of a traditional British sports car.

The accompanying history states that the car received its first service at approximately 500 miles in August 2014 and its second at around 970 miles in August 2015. With only 2,471 miles now displayed, it has clearly seen very limited use. The vendor's documentation further records that it has been used only in dry conditions, carefully warmed before use and never raced.

Importantly for such a low-volume specialist car, ‘HK63 BVZ’ is accompanied by a substantial history file containing information relating to its construction and specification, together with Hawke Register and Hawke Owners’ Club material. The car's identification plate confirms Wildmoor MTC and chassis number W1LDHAWK011062012.

With its extremely limited production, distinctive Morgan-inspired appearance, potent 186bhp Zetec engine and remarkably low recorded mileage, this Wildmoor Hawke represents a fascinating opportunity to acquire a very uncommon British sports car with both character and performance.
