The Bolesworth Castle March 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 16

1994 Jaguar XJS
***NO RESERVE***

Registration - HAZ 5464

Chassis No. - SAJJNAED3EJ192818

M.O.T. - January 2025

Odometer - 120,000

Presented in beautiful pale blue, with grey leather and wood veneer interior, ‘HAZ 5464’ has been in its current ownership for the last five years having crossed the water from Belfast. Now showing just over 120,000 miles, the MOT history suggests the current owner’s use has been restricted to high days and holidays, with only a few hundred miles travelled each year. Powered by the 4.0-litre straight-six engine, connected to a four-speed automatic transmission, this example of the appreciating Jaguar XJS coupe has been well cared for throughout its time on the road. Much of its maintenance has been carried out by a Jaguar specialist, and a file of receipts backs up the impressive lineage of stamps in the service book. In the boot you’ll also find a largely complete Jaguar-branded toolkit and a full complement of replacement bulbs. With an indicated 120,000 miles on the clock, the vendor has owned ‘HAZ 5464’ for about three years, and its distinctive licence plate is included in the sale.

First outlined by Malcom Sayer – the designer whose portfolio also includes this car’s predecessor, the E-Type – the Jaguar XJ-S as it was originally known was noted for its prominent rear buttresses. Sayer rather unfortunately died in 1970 before the design was finalised, and although initial reactions were mixed when the car was unveiled in 1975, it’s fair to say that time has been kind to it, with good examples now keenly sought. Under Ford’s ownership, the hyphen disappeared from the nameplate, and the facelifted XJS debuted in 1991 with a number of subtle design changes including more aerodynamic bumpers and revised rear window trim – but crucially, still with those famous buttresses. Jaguar also introduced a new 4.0-litre version of the AJ6 straight-six engine, mated to a four-speed ZF automatic transmission, and that’s what you’ll find beneath the long, elegant bonnet of this fine example. Down on cylinders it may have been, but it still produced an extremely healthy 245hp and was far more economical than its V12 stablemate.

In summary

· Just over 120,000 miles backed up by MOT and service history

· Recent new roof lining

· A practical Jaguar (and more economical than the V12) ready to be enjoyed
