February 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 17

1993 Ferrari 348TB
Strikingly beautiful Giallo Fly 348, Equipped with a de-cat Tubi exhaust system.

Registration - L977 WGC

Chassis No. - ZFFKA35B000089599

M.O.T. - June 2022

Odometer - 82,155

This handsome lefthand-drive, Giallo Fly-coloured 348TB was imported to the UK in 1998. Its eye-catching bodywork is complemented by an interior trimmed in black-leather and silver-painted, period-correct five-spoke alloy wheels. It has covered a relatively modest total of 82,155 kilometres (51,346 miles) to date and has recently benefited from: a new rear subframe and brakes; reconditioned alternator and starter motor; a degree of rewiring; and the fitment of a de-cat Tubi exhaust system. Evidently the last cambelt change was made only c.1,000 kilometres ago, but the Ferrari is now due another one as a result of the elapsed time. The vendor informs us that ‘everything works, including the electric windows and mirrors and air conditioning system’, and he presently classes the transmission, interior and electrics as ‘good’, and the engine, bodywork and paintwork as ‘average’. He is now offering the Prancing Horse complete with alarm system, array of invoices and receipts, pair of keys, owners’ book pack, and workshop manual parts 1 and 2.

First seen at the 1989 Frankfurt Motorshow, the Pininfarina-penned 348TB (Berlinetta) and 348TS (Spider) were the first series-production Ferraris to feature a steel monocoque chassis as opposed to a tubular frame, and a robotised production line was installed at the Scaglietti works in Modena to produce the new shells. The newcomer shared a number of components with the Mondial, not least: the longitudinally placed 3,405cc quad-cam 32-valve V8 engine and transverse (hence the T in the name) five-speed manual gearbox. Cradled in its own subframe, the V8 developed 300bhp and 238 lb ft of torque – sufficient to propel the 348 to 60mph in 5.4 seconds and to a top speed of 170mph.

In summary:

  • Just 82,155 kilometres (51,346 miles) from new
  • Recently fitted with a number of new and reconditioned parts
  • Equipped with a de-cat Tubi exhaust system
