March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 17

2001 Subaru Impreza WRX
Superb throughout and unmolested

Registration - LM51 ODC

Chassis No. - JF1GDAKD31G009350

M.O.T. - June 2023

Odometer - 59,864

This well-presented WRX is a rarity in the UK, being exactly to the specification it left the factory in 2001 save for the Prodrive exhaust system it has had from the get go – most such Subarus have been modified to one level or another. It is also in far finer condition than the majority, and the vendor currently classes the boxer engine, five-speed manual gearbox and black and grey cloth interior trim as ‘excellent’, and the bodywork and dark metallic blue paintwork as ‘good’. The car rides on an apparently very tidy set of OE alloy wheels shod with Imperial Ecosport 2 tyres, and the odometer presently sits at a relatively modest, though unwarranted, total of 59,864 miles. The vendor is now selling the car complete with lots of service history courtesy of its four owners, plus a selection of receipts and old MOTs.

Now in its fifth generation, the Impreza has been a staple of the Subaru range since 1992. The second generation ‘New Age’ cars introduced in 2000 were larger than their predecessors and notable for their ‘Bugeye’ headlights. The WRX (World Rally eXperimental) version was a performance derivative developed from the specification of the company’s works competition cars, the rally-inspired technology of which included a turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine, five-speed manual gearbox, four-wheel drive, stiffened suspension and vented disc brakes. The power output was some 215bhp, which was sufficient for the car to achieve a 0-60mph time of 6.4 seconds and a top speed of over 140mph. Subaru’s success on the world rally stage has made the cars a go-to option for performance drivers – the British contingent being especially inspired by Colin McRae’s World Rally Championship victory of 1995.

In summary:

  • A very original, well-presented example
  • Has been equipped with a Prodrive exhaust system from new
  • According to the vendor it ‘drives really well and is rust-free’
