  Lot 18

1985 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce

Registration - B428 MAO

Chassis No. - ZARBA5417F1023435

M.O.T. - No M.O.T.

Odometer - 87,954

There has never been another car quite like Alfa’s legendary Spider, the look and sound of which could only be Italian. This well-presented third generation 2000 Veloce matches sparkling black bodywork to a black leather interior. A lefthand drive example, it was first UK registered in 2013, since when it has had just two keepers, the most recent of whom has retained the Alfa since 2014. He has recently invested the best part of £9,000 to ensure it is fully up to scratch, and now grades the twin-cam engine, five-speed manual gearbox and paintwork as ‘excellent’ and the interior trim as ‘good’. He is now offering the car complete with a history file covering all the work carried out, plus a 2021 Alfa Romeo Health Check. The odometer currently stands at just 87,954 kilometres (54,652 miles).

Production of the Spider commenced in 1966, just one year before the model was immortalised by the Dustin Hoffman film ‘The Graduate’. The chassis was based on that of the Giulia 105, and the Series 1 examples were powered by a 1,570cc version of Alfa’s sonorous four-cylinder twin-cam unit. The sporting specification included independent front suspension, disc brakes and a five-speed manual gearbox. In 1967, the Duetto was replaced by the 1750 Spider Veloce, the Series 2 version of which arrived in 1970, at which point the original rounded tail was replaced with a distinctive ‘Kamm’ design. A year later engine capacity was increased to 1,962cc, creating the first Spider capable of over 120mph. The Series 3 variant broke cover in 1982, a year after which a major styling revamp brought rubber tipped bumpers and rubber rear spoiler, plus a new centre console and revised facia.

In summary:

  • A lefthand drive example imported in 2013
  • Circa £9,000 recently invested to bring the car fully up to scratch
  • Comes complete with comprehensive history file
