  Lot 18

1993 TVR Chimaera 400

Registration - K545 RUT

Chassis No. - SDLDCC4PXPM011111

M.O.T. - April 2023

Odometer - 90,826

This handsome, very early UK-supplied Chimaera is finished in the pleasing combination of Cooper Green bodywork, biscuit-coloured leather seats and contrasting green facia and centre console. It is powered by a 240bhp 4.0-litre version of Rover’s ubiquitous V8 engine, that drives though a five-speed manual transmission to the rear axle. In true TVR style, the car is devoid of driver aids and, thanks to an impressively low overall weight, is therefore theoretically capable of hitting 60mph from rest in only a little over 5.0 seconds. The car has certainly been the subject of regular maintenance. In 2004/2005 it was treated to a degree of engine refurbishment by TVR specialist Kerridges of Ipswich (£4,826.93). Not long afterwards they replaced the chassis outriggers, which ‘are still in excellent condition’. A new mohair hood was installed in 2014 (£400), the brake system fully overhauled in 2021 (£855), and a fresh battery fitted very recently. This notably original example rides on the correct TVR alloy wheels and is currently considered by the vendor to have ‘excellent’ V8 engine and gearbox, and ‘good’ bodywork, paintwork and upholstery. He is now offering the Chimaera for sale complete with a Pioneer stereo, pair of keys, the original leather-bound owner’s manual, service book with 15 stamps, a history file containing countless invoices confirming how much has been invested in the car over the years, and lots of old invoices plus a current, advisory-free, one valid until April 5 next year.

Designed by John Ravenscroft, the two-seater rag-topped Chimaera reigned from 1992 to 2003, when it was superseded by the Tamora. Just 5,256 examples were created by the Blackpool factory.

In summary:

  • A very tidy, original specimen
  • Comes with proof of very regular maintenance
  • Accompanied by a very large history file and MOT to April
